Jamaica has gained international notoriety for its jerk chicken, reggae music and a relaxed approach to life, but its appeal as a must-visit Caribbean destination comes from many of its other gems–some well-known and some hidden. On your Someday Getaway to Jamaica, discover the heart and soul of the island by exploring its lush mountains and thundering waterfalls, going horseback riding in the countryside or by simply spending your days lounging on a pristine beach.

Beautiful Beaches

White sand and clear water are two of the Caribbean’s biggest appeals and Jamaica has both in abundance. Negril’s Seven Mile Beach is the place to be for any Beach Worshipper. The entire seven mile stretch of beach is gorgeous and offers intimate spots as well as areas buzzing with activities. For smaller but still breathtaking experiences, visit one of Jamaica’s secluded beaches like Frenchman’s Cove Beach, the Bamboo Beach Club, or James Bond Beach.

Adventure for Everyone

Even though a relaxing day on the beach is never a bad idea, sometimes you just need a little adrenaline in your life. Jamaica offers all types of activities, from cliff diving perfect for Thrill Seekers to hiking and ATV tours fit for any Explorer. If you’re looking for something to do in Jamaica, try one of these exciting adventures from Amstar DMC:

  • Jamwest Superdeal: Hop aboard an ATV, zip-line through the treetops, go horseback riding, or embark on a jungle safari.
  • Cool Runnings Dunns River Day Cruise: Spend the day snorkeling, then see the gorgeous 600 ft. falls up close. Truly awe-inspiring!
  • Dolphin Encounter: Head over to Dolphin Cove, where you’ll learn more about these friendly creatures. Then, enjoy a shallow or deep water interaction.
  • Luminous Lagoon Nighttime Cruise: You won’t believe your eyes as the Luminous Lagoon comes alive in vibrant colors.

Natural Wonders

Jamaica’s beauty expands past its beaches. Jamaica boasts lush mountains that are home to 1,930 square miles of forest and over 3,000 plant species. The island is also home to some of the Caribbean’s most stunning waterfalls like Dunn’s River Falls, Reggae Falls, and YS Falls. The Blue Holes are also prominent across the island (try Blue Hole Falls, Blue Hole Mineral Spring, or St. Ann’s Blue Hole). At Barney’s Hummingbird in Westmoreland, you can give hummingbird watching a try. At Martha Brae River in Trelawny, you can cruise down the river on a bamboo raft while you hear the story of the legendary Arawak witch – after whom the river is named.

Food and Music

Music, food, and drink are a big part of the island’s identity and will undeniably play a part in your Jamaican escape. For the ultimate island experience, visit during Bacchanal (a.k.a. Carnival) or one of the major music festivals. If you want to savor local flavor, head to Rick’s Café in Negril (where you can also jump off a cliff into the deep blue sea) or Office of Nature (they have the best lobster, ever). For fresh seafood in a unique setting, try Floyd’s Pelican Bar, which literally sits in the middle of the ocean. If time allows, go on a tour of the Appleton Estate rum distillery or Blue Mountain Estate coffee plant; at the very least, make room in your luggage to bring these two world-class Jamaican staples home with you.

There are plenty of other reasons to love Jamaica, like it’s perfect weather year-round. All of this will be waiting once you’re ready to get away to this magical island.
