Poor service and food was lacking.
This was our first all-inclusive resort and I would say that it was not a good experience. The service at this resort was subpar to the say the least. Bartenders are very rude, especially in the Mexican restaurant. The service in the Chinese restaraunt was very very bad and our wait time for our drinks was in excess of 20 minutes! The servers make you feel that they are being put out by your order, unacceptable. The elevators suck and take forever. Our air conditioning didn't work well in our room despite a visit from maintenance. Overall, the food was not good. The snack shack was great and the Italian restaurant was good. Buffet was mediocre at best. We spent more money dining out than we should have. It is hard to get drinks and takes a long time!!!

It was not terrible, but I won't go back.
I was sadly disappointed in this resort. There were nine of us traveling together. For the most part the staff was friendly and polite enough. I liked that I could eat at the specialty restaurants without reservations. First come first served. The property was clean and we did not have any issues with our room. My issues or concerns, 1. At the buffet you have to wait to be seated. This will cause a back up at the entrance. Also, at the buffet, many times I had to wait for food. For example, the fruit was all gone at breakfast, I waited about 10 minutes and said forget it. Ran into the same thing with the hashbrowns. You should always be cooking, and should not run out. They dished up your food, which I understand, to curtail waste, however, many times I said just a little and was given to much. We actually went off the resort for a couple of meals. We travel all over the Carribean and I think that is the first time we went off site. As I said, there were nine of us, in the buffet they had the tables to fit us. In the Palm, they would not allow us to move tables together, so we had to split up and took two tables. 2. One of our parties room smelled like sewer on the second or third day. So bad she had migraines. Went to the desk and they said they would send maintenance, they did not. Maintenance never showed up, but after a couple trips they finally sent housekeeping. She sprayed some air freshener. It did not work. The family member was in another family members room resting due to the migraine. I was speaking for her. I asked about moving to another room. They were all full. After multiple trips down to the front desk, with getting different answers, and arguing with the front desk manager, she was finally moved. So, I guess they were not full after all. We should not have had to spend two hours getting the problem resolved. especially, since I later found out it is a reoccurring problem. What really upset me, was later on in the elevator a woman asked (same floor) if my room smelled like sewer. I said no, but asked what room she was in, and it was the same room my family member was in. Just fix the problem. 3. The bar by the beach had one bartender in it. Many times we had to wait a good 10 minutes to be served. And they did not keep track of who was waiting. Had someone cut infront of me and walked right up to the bar, and they were served. Guess you have to be rude. (not my style) Saw the same thing at the swim up bar. However, the day bartender at the lobby bar (with the mini casino) was fantastic. I wish I remembered his name, but he was great.

Very nice hotel and staff
The location of Sonesta Maho beach couldn't be more perfect. Very close to the famous beach at the end of the runway and very close to the nightlife and restaurants on the main road. When eating breakfast in the hotel, Shantal, was my waitress. She met met me with a smile and was eager to help with extra coffee or other requests.

Worse experience
Just came back from staying at this resort and I wasn’t at all impressed. For the price we payed this resort should’ve at least been average. I’ve stayed at many resorts all over the Caribbean and this one was by far the worst. When we arrived the toilet had urine stains all around the rim of the toilet bowl. The floors in the room wasn’t thoroughly cleaned. The walls in the bathroom was also dirty. We called to have the bathroom clean they sent someone to clean it the next day. There wasn’t one restaurant where we enjoyed the food at this resort. The food didn’t taste good. Even the drinks were terrible. My husband and I ended up eating outside the resort for lunch and dinner. Our last night there I forgot my purse in the lobby, when I woke up I got a notification from my credit card company that my card was used for $2085. We called the front desk after the person used my card they returned the purse to the front desk. I was able to get my purse and license back but I had to call the credit card company to report the fraudulent activity and cancel the card. When my husband went to speak to the front desk they said they would review the cameras and get back to us. And it’s been 3 days we haven’t heard anything from the resort. Would I stay at this resort again? Absolutely not. If I were to ever go back to Sint Maarten I would rather stay at another resort or airbnb.
