Rarely disappointing and rarely amazing.
Spent 4 nights here. A couple of highlights: -Staff was mostly super friendly and happy to help and assist. Veronica at the lobby bar was especially great. -Resort was not especially crowded--didn't have a hard time finding a chair anywhere we wanted. A lot of the other reviews are correct: it's an older building; lots of concrete spalling; the beach in front of the resort is pretty rocky; the food at the restaurants (even the specialty ones) was just okay; the drinks (outside of the lobby bar) were just okay. None of these things ruined our trip at all, but they're worth mentioning. If you just want somewhere to relax for a few days, you'll have a great time here.

Great resort
Love the coffee shop I'm not a coffee lover but they made me LOVE the carmel frappis. Room was great, pools were good. Outside bar with tables we used every night to play cribbage. Beach was amazing, staff was great. The only thing is if you want a drink by the pool you have to get it yourself, they dont come around and serve you.

Exceeded Expectations
First time to this resort but our fourth visit to an Iberostar resort in Mexico. We were a bit hesitant about the Hotel Zone, thinking it would feel crowded but that was not the case at all. We booked a room in the Villas and were not disappointed. It was an easy walk to all parts of the resort. Staff as always were pleasant and efficient. We were there during the Super Bowl and they put on a great outdoor party with a big screen and buffet. It would be worth going back again just to watch the Super Bowl! We do not have kids but noticed a fair amount of families with mostly young children. It did not cramp our style one bit. There is a big pool area for kids and it looked like the Star Camp was pretty busy. Overall we loved our stay here and will be back

Wow! What a great place for a vacation!
We recently got back from 8 nights at Selection Cancun. This was a new resort for us having been at the Paraiso Complex, Bavaro, and Rose Hall. We were a bit skeptical from the pictures, but ended up having a really great stay. We used Happy Shuttle from the airport – we were not happy! Our plane had been delayed and I thought they kept track of that. It took forever for our luggage, so we got to the transfer area later than we were scheduled. They seemed upset that we were not on time and we waited for almost 30 minutes for our transfer!! Our check-in at the hotel was easy and our room was ready for us. We were in room 433 – a balcony with a terrific view. Being use to the size of the suites at the Maya and Rose Hall, this room was a bit smaller – but it did not really affect our stay. The resort is a bit larger than Rose Hall Suites, but smaller than the Maya. Once we found where all the restaurants and other places were, it was very easy to get around. Infinity pool is right at the beach. Walking on the beach was not easy in the very soft sand. And there were a lot of large rocks in the water right in front of the resort – if you walked a bit right or left it was better. Water was gorgeous blue!! There are a series of small connecting pools from the hotel to the beach including an activity pool – great for little kids. There is also a nice little water park for kids (up to 12 maybe?) Though there is not as much shade as the Suites, we did not have trouble “saving” our spot around 8AM. There are 8 Balinese Beds are available to reserve for $100 a day including a bottle of champagne, waiter service. Star friends provide games around the pool and on the beach from 10AM -5PM. Water Aerobics from at 11:30 daily with the fitness staff. (Shout out to Star Friends – Alex, Edgar, Valerie, Adan, Diego, Fermi, and of course Gabriel in the towel hut!!) We ate at all of the restaurants except the Japanese (due to our not caring for Japanese food!!) The Steak House was our favorite (La Parilla). We also enjoyed the American Bistro and the Italian (La Horma). We did not care for the Mexican! Guess it was too Mexican for us Americans!! If you arrived early – say before 7, there was not a real long wait for tables. The buffet was great for all meals. Some lunches had special food being prepared out on the patio. Tuesday night was Gala Night/Seafood night at the buffet – delicious. You can get burgers at the Mexican restaurant for lunch and there is also a food truck with nachos, quesadillas, etc. There is a small bar near the back of the pool that also has churros (yum), waffles and ice cream. (Restaurant Staff – Omar, Kennedy, Antonio,Hector, Sandra(at reception) and Marisol – chef in the buffet; William, Adriana, Alexander, Manuel at the Steakhouse;) Evening entertainment was either around the pool, on the beach or in the Theater. We saw a couple of great shows in the Theater. Some entertainment was moved to the lobby (maybe due to weather?) It was very loud!! As with other Iberostar Resorts, it is the staff that really made our vacation. Despite our limited Spanish, we were able to communicate our needs. Most of the staff is very fluent in English.
